Tashkent launches unified traffic management center: city to see new rules and digital control

From 2026, the UTMC will be able to restrict transport, change speed limits and manage the entire road infrastructure of the capital

Uzbekistan has defined the powers of the new Traffic Management Center of Tashkent. According to the presidential decree of December 4, the UTMC will start operating on July 1, 2026 and will become a single coordinating body that will be responsible for traffic, control over violations and digital management of the capital's road infrastructure.

The main tasks of the center include monitoring traffic flows, controlling pedestrian traffic, preventing congestion and improving safety. To do this, the UTMC will have access to data from cameras, sensors and other sources, forming a unified database of road information for Tashkent. The center will also manage street infrastructure: from planning speed limits and parking schemes to developing public transport routes and designing pedestrian zones.

An important function will be mathematical modeling, which will allow testing new traffic patterns before their implementation. The UTMC will be able to set speed limits, restrict the movement of certain types of transport, regulate repair work, control the weight and size parameters of vehicles and determine the location of cameras for recording violations. The body will coordinate all transport operators, including carriers and rental services, as well as manage paid parking.
