Uzbekistan invests 40 trillion soums in roads over three years

The country has tripled external financing and is preparing a new development strategy until 2035

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on the state of the road industry and plans for its development. According to the government, Uzbekistan has allocated almost 40 trillion soums to road construction and repair over the past three years. Funds raised from abroad have tripled, reaching $1.2 billion in 2025.

These investments have built and renovated 63,000 kilometers of roads. The use of new types of coatings has increased their lifespan by about 50%. Moving away from standard templates and transitioning to design that considers the geology and climate of the regions should increase the reliability of infrastructure in the long term.

Plans for the coming years include the construction and modernization of another 21,000 kilometers of roads and the repair of 325 bridges. Special emphasis is placed on the digitalization of industry management. The private sector will play an important role: today, about 60% of new roads under the initiative budget are built by private contractors, and its participation is planned to be expanded.

The President instructed to prepare a long-term strategy for the development of highways in Uzbekistan until 2035, as well as to accelerate the introduction of advanced technologies and strengthen quality control of both construction and subsequent maintenance of the road network.

The meeting also noted that the country intends to increase the number of weight control points for freight transport, which should improve safety and reduce road wear.
