From April 1, 2026, new financial requirements will come into force in Uzbekistan, significantly limiting the use of cash. The corresponding changes are provided for by the presidential decree and are aimed at reducing cash turnover, as well as increasing the transparency of economic transactions. Payment in a number of areas will be allowed exclusively through bank cards and electronic payment systems.
Cash payments will be prohibited for state and utility services, including electricity, gas and water, as well as the sale of alcoholic and tobacco products. In addition, it will be impossible to pay in cash at gas stations and electric vehicle charging stations, as well as when buying any goods and services worth more than 25 million soums.
A separate set of restrictions applies to large assets. From 2026, the purchase and sale of real estate, as well as cars and special equipment of categories M, N, O and G up to 10 years old, will be possible only through bank transfers. This means that it will be impossible to purchase a house, apartment or new car for cash - all such transactions will be processed exclusively in non-cash form.
