Sun Without Taxes: Tajikistan Bets on Solar Energy

Import of solar panels and storage devices exempted from VAT for several years

Tajikistan is introducing large-scale tax incentives for the development of renewable energy. Until January 1, 2031, the country completely exempts the import of solar panels, energy storage systems, and all key components from value-added tax. The decision aims to reduce the cost of "green" technologies and accelerate their implementation in both the private sector and business.

The benefits affect not only the equipment itself, but also the real estate on which it is installed. Facilities with solar panels will be exempt from VAT for up to 5 years from the date of commissioning. Thus, owners of houses, commercial buildings and industrial facilities will receive an additional financial incentive to switch to alternative energy sources.

The authorities emphasize that the new measures should increase the interest of the population and companies in solar energy, reduce the burden on the country's electric power system and promote environmental sustainability. It is expected that tax relief will accelerate market development and make solar energy more accessible throughout the republic.
