Uzbekistan Introduces New Measures Against Climate Change

Droughts, Dust Storms, and Rising Temperatures: The Country's Strategy Offers Real Solutions

As part of the "Uzbekistan-2030" strategy, combating climate change has become a key focus. Plans include strengthening hydrometeorological monitoring, improving the accuracy of agrometeorological forecasts, and optimizing the use of natural resources. Special attention is paid to creating "green coverings" - protective forest plantations on an area of 600,000 hectares, as well as reclaiming more than 6,000 hectares of land disturbed by mining.

The project's goals include bringing the level of early warnings about hydrometeorological hazards to 100%, increasing the accuracy of mountain river runoff forecasts to 98%, and improving crop yield forecasts to 96%. There are also plans to create drought-resistant and high-yielding varieties of fruits and grapes adapted to the climate of the regions, with a yield increase of 30-35%.

The strategy aims to reduce the effects of droughts, desertification, dust and sandstorms, and rising temperatures, as well as to increase the efficiency of agriculture and water management. These measures form the basis of Uzbekistan's sustainable development and create a system for protecting the population and the environment from climate risks.
