No Corruption Detected in 10 Universities of Uzbekistan in Two Years

Minister Reports Increased Anti-Corruption Efforts in Higher Education Institutions

Ten universities that had an unsatisfactory level of anti-corruption measures in 2023 have not committed a single corruption crime in the following two years. This was stated by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Kongratbay Sharipov, noting that the performance of these educational institutions is now rated as "good."

In 2023, a survey was conducted of more than 100 universities in the country, the results of which divided educational institutions into three categories - with good, satisfactory, and unsatisfactory levels of anti-corruption efforts. For universities with low scores, special action plans were developed and implemented to reduce the risks of corruption in the educational process.

Among the universities that have achieved improvements are the Tashkent State Dental Institute, Urgench Pedagogical Institute, Namangan Institute of Textile Industry, Kokand branch of TSTU, International Institute of Food Technologies and Engineering, as well as several branches of Tashkent universities in Almalyk, Shakhrisabz, and Nukus.

The Ministry of Higher Education reported that a digital platform is being created in parallel to assess the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures in higher education institutions. This should increase transparency and control, considering that Uzbekistan ranked 121st out of 180 countries in the 2024 Transparency International Corruption Perception Index, losing one point compared to the previous year.
