The management of the construction of the new airport in the Tashkent region has been joined by an international specialist — Berk Albayrak, former CEO of Istanbul Airport, has been appointed General Manager for Construction at the project office. He will represent the interests of the key investor consortium, the Saudi company Vision Invest.
Albayrak has extensive experience in the aviation industry: he worked at state airports in Turkey, participated in the development of Sabiha Gökçen Airport, and since 2021 he has headed the Istanbul hub. In early 2025, he also oversaw the construction of the airport in Kuwait. The new project in Uzbekistan covers 1,300 hectares and is being implemented on the basis of a public-private partnership with investors from Saudi Arabia, Japan and South Korea.
Once commissioned, the airport will be able to serve up to 20 million passengers per year, process 129,000 tons of cargo and provide up to 30 take-off and landing operations per hour with simultaneous parking of 62 aircraft. The project is designed to significantly strengthen the capital's aviation hub and become one of the largest in Central Asia.
