Uzbekistan is discussing the possibility of national companies entering international financial markets. On January 23, Akram Aliyev, Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade, met with John Tonelli, Managing Director and Head of Debt Capital Markets at Oppenheimer and Co. Inc.
The negotiations focused on the prospects for the development of the country's financial market and attracting external financing for investment projects. The parties considered options for Uzbek companies to enter global capital markets, including conducting IPOs and issuing various debt instruments, as well as preparing businesses to work with international investors.
Special attention was paid to financing projects in infrastructure, industry and energy — key sectors of the Uzbek economy. Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their interest in continuing the dialogue and moving to practical cooperation aimed at expanding the presence of Uzbek companies in international financial platforms.
