JSC "Uzbekgidroenergo" has signed a package of agreements with the Chinese company Sinohydro Co., Ltd., aimed at modernizing the Shakhrikhan hydropower plants in the Andijan Region. The project, implemented under a turnkey EPC scheme, covers HPP-5A and HPP-6A and provides for a full cycle of work — from design to commissioning of the facilities.
After modernization, the total installed capacity of the plants will increase from 7.6 MW to 16.4 MW, making it possible to generate about 33 million kWh of electricity annually. This will be enough to supply electricity to more than 13 thousand households while also saving approximately 11 million m³ of natural gas and more than 27.5 thousand tons of coal.
As part of the project, the technological and management infrastructure of the hydropower plants will also be upgraded, which will improve the reliability and resilience of the region's energy system. According to experts, cooperation with Sinohydro opens a new stage in the development of Uzbekistan's hydropower sector and strengthens the country's strategic position in ensuring sustainable electricity.
