Spain has declared Uzbekistan a key partner in Central Asia as part of its new Strategy for the Asia-Pacific region for 2026–2029. The document, presented by Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares in Barcelona, defines the priorities of Spanish foreign policy in the region, including deepening political dialogue, expanding trade and economic ties, and strengthening diplomatic presence.
Special attention is paid to cooperation in science, innovation, education, culture, and public diplomacy. Uzbekistan is recognized as a priority partner of Spain due to large-scale economic reforms and an open policy, as well as the intensification of bilateral cooperation in recent years.
The Strategy notes Uzbekistan's sustainable economic growth, based on liberalization, attracting investment, and diversifying production. The Republic is seen as an important partner for the EU in the development of transport corridors and integration into Eurasian projects, including the Global Gateway initiative.
