Uzbekistan starts exploration for iron and copper in Afghanistan

The project is considered strategically important for Uzbekistan

Uzbek Overseas Geology Company has launched a large-scale geological exploration project in Afghanistan, aimed at finding hydrocarbons, iron and copper ore. The work is being carried out on the Muhammad-Jandagar, Shamar and Ahmadobod blocks, where significant reserves of minerals are expected to be identified.

The official opening of the project was attended by the Deputy Governor of Balkh Province, Mawlawi Nurula Hodi Abu Idris, and the General Director of Uzbek Overseas Geology Company, Khayit Omonov. During negotiations with the Afghan side, the company obtained a license to conduct geological exploration and continue research in the country.

The project is considered strategically important for Uzbekistan: the identification of new iron and copper deposits will expand the raw material base, as well as strengthen economic cooperation with Afghanistan. Experts note that successful implementation could attract international investment and create opportunities for joint industrial projects.
