The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has proposed updating the internal control rules to combat money laundering. One of the key innovations is the ability to buy foreign currency without supporting documents for up to $500, which will simplify transactions for citizens.
At the same time, the regulator is tightening the requirements for the transparency of transfers. Now, more data will be required for senders and recipients: from the transaction number and address to the date of birth or TIN. These requirements will apply to all domestic transfers from 25 BRV (10.3 million soums), while previously the threshold was higher and only applied to electronic transactions.
Banks are also required to record card data when paying for goods and services and promptly transmit information upon request - within 3 business days. The concept of batch transfers is also being introduced, where several transactions are combined under one number. The changes are aimed at increasing the transparency of the financial system and compliance with international standards.
