Negotiations took place in Tashkent between the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan and representatives of the Japanese corporation Sumitomo and the Saudi ACWA Power, during which the development of key projects in the country's energy sector was discussed. Laziz Kudratov held the meeting on the Uzbek side, Hajime Mori participated on the Sumitomo side, and Abid Malik represented ACWA Power.
The parties reviewed the current progress of large-scale programs to upgrade energy infrastructure and develop renewable energy facilities. It was noted that joint work already makes it possible to increase the efficiency of construction and accelerate the implementation of projects. Following the discussion, measures were agreed to optimize the timing of the commissioning of new capacities.
The issue of supporting foreign investors and strengthening interaction with state structures of Uzbekistan was also raised. At the end of the meeting, readiness was confirmed for further expansion of cooperation. It was also announced that an agreement was signed on the implementation of five energy projects with a total capacity of 3.5 GW and a total cost of $4.2 billion.
