Cryptocurrency Goes Offline: Uzbekistan Launches Payment for Cafes and Airline Tickets via Asterium

The project connects crypto payments with the real economy and retail

Fintech company Asterium has begun introducing cryptocurrency payments into everyday transactions in Uzbekistan. Digital assets can now be used to pay for cafes, airline tickets, and goods through a network of local partners.

The project's infrastructure is built on integration with the Rahmat payment system, allowing businesses to accept crypto payments in familiar usage scenarios. Payment for tourism services has also been implemented through the partner network of Octobank, including the airlines Centrum Air and Qanot Sharq.

The company notes that the next step is expansion into mass retail and e-commerce. The project is seen as an attempt to transform cryptocurrency from an investment instrument into a full-fledged means of payment in the real economy.
