Uzbekistan is considering the possibility of extending the Tashkent – Samarkand high-speed railway to Khiva. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Transport Zhasurbek Choriev, noting that the project has already reached the stage of active discussion and assessment of further network expansion.

According to current plans, the Tashkent – Samarkand section, approximately 300 km long, has already been designed, and travel time along it could be reduced to about 1 hour 40 minutes instead of the current 2 hours 30 minutes. Further extension of the line to Khiva is considered a strategic development of the country's transport infrastructure.

If the project is implemented, the journey between Tashkent and Khiva could be reduced from the current 7.5 hours to approximately 5 hours. Hyundai Rotem trains are planned for the line, with alternative rolling stock also permitted. In parallel, the "Jaloliddin Manguberdi" high-speed train has already been launched, running between Tashkent and Khiva at speeds up to 250 km/h. Construction of the railway could start this year after refining the feasibility study and preparing for the tender.
