Uzbekistan is actively transforming its energy sector, which is becoming one of the key drivers of the economy. According to Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, approximately $35 billion in direct investments have been attracted to the industry in recent years. These funds have significantly expanded generation and modernized infrastructure.
About 9 GW of new capacity has been commissioned in the country, and electricity production has grown by approximately 40% – from 60 to 85 billion kWh. The total installed generation capacity has approached 26 GW. Special emphasis is placed on the development of renewable energy sources: solar and wind power plants have already exceeded 5.5 GW, and the share of "clean" energy, together with hydropower, has reached about 30%.
The authorities call energy a strategic industry that should become a competitive advantage for the country. More than 69 thousand km of power grids and 14 thousand substations have already been modernized, ensuring system stability and the connection of new facilities. Localization is also growing: the volume of production and services for the energy sector has exceeded $700 million and could grow to $1.3 billion.
