Uzbekistan to Increase Currency Purchase Limit Without Documents: Threshold to Rise to $500

New rules will simplify small currency operations, but control over large transactions will remain

Starting August 9, 2026, updated rules for purchasing cash foreign currency without identity verification will come into force in Uzbekistan. The Central Bank approved a document according to which the limit for such operations will increase fivefold – to $500.

Currently, banks are required to identify customers when purchasing currency exceeding $100. After the new norms come into effect, citizens will be able to purchase cash currency within $500 without presenting a passport or ID card. The decision aims to simplify daily operations for the population and reduce the administrative burden on banks.

At the same time, the regulator emphasizes that the basic mechanisms of financial monitoring remain in place. Banks are still obliged to track client operations, verify the origin of funds if necessary, and assess the compliance of transactions with the declared profile. Thus, the relaxations apply only to the simplified segment of operations, while control over larger transactions remains unchanged.
