The project for localizing Volkswagen cars in Uzbekistan has been officially presented, envisioning a phased deployment of production at two sites simultaneously – in Tashkent and Angren. The initiative was reviewed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev as part of discussions on the national automotive industry development strategy.
In the first stage, large-scale assembly (SKD) of cars is planned to be launched in Tashkent. Subsequently, production will be relocated and expanded to a complete knockdown (CKD) cycle within the free economic zone, which will increase component localization and allow products to enter foreign markets.
Earlier, it was reported that Volkswagen had already signed an agreement with local partner Alyans Auto, a subsidiary of Uzavtosanoat, providing for licensed assembly and technological cooperation. The project includes the implementation of German brand quality standards, the development of a service network, and the supply of components, including from China. In the future, the company may introduce up to eight models to the market – from sedans to SUVs, intensifying competition in the country's rapidly growing automotive sector.
