Starting January 1, 2027, Uzbekistan will become a full member of the International Electrotechnical Commission. The decision has already been officially adopted by the international organization responsible for developing and promoting global standards in electrical engineering and electronics.
As reported by the Uzelsanoat Association, the new status will give the republic the opportunity to directly participate in the development and updating of international standards, vote on key standardization issues, and represent the interests of domestic manufacturers at the global level.
One of the main practical advantages will be connection to international conformity assessment systems, including IECEE, IECEx, IECQ, and IECRE. Thanks to this, certificates and test results issued by Uzbek laboratories and certification centers will be able to receive wider international recognition.
This is expected to significantly simplify the entry of electrical products into foreign markets, reduce bureaucratic procedures, and increase the competitiveness of local manufacturers. In addition, authorities expect that IEC membership will contribute to attracting investment and developing high-tech industries.
It is also reported that Secretary-General Philippe Metzger will visit Uzbekistan in August, which will be one of the stages of preparation for the country's entry into the organization with its new status.
