The total demand for foreign currency in Uzbekistan for January–May 2026 reached 25.7 billion dollars, an increase of 20.1% compared to the same period last year. This was reported by the country's Central Bank.
The main volume of operations came from legal entities – they acquired about 20.2 billion dollars. Individuals purchased 5.5 billion dollars in currency during the same period, which also reflects an increase in activity in the retail segment.
The supply of currency from the market also increased and amounted to approximately 22.3 billion dollars, which is 28.6% higher than last year's figures. The population sold about 10.2 billion dollars to banks, and legal entities – about 12.1 billion dollars.
Despite a noticeable increase in turnover, the national currency exchange rate remained relatively stable. During the period, it fluctuated in the range of 11,938–12,320 soms per dollar, and the average volatility remained at a low level, amounting to about 0.25%.
