Over 2.5 million residents of Uzbekistan banned from taking out loans in their own name

Self-restriction has become a popular tool for protection against fraudsters: almost 83% of users formalized the restriction in 2026

In Uzbekistan, the number of citizens who have voluntarily imposed a ban on taking out loans has exceeded 2.57 million people. According to the credit bureau "Credit Information Analytical Center" (KIAC), as of July 1, 2026, 2,574,026 individuals have used the service.

In the second quarter alone, the number of users increased by 366.3 thousand people, or by 16.6%. Since the beginning of 2026, more than 2.13 million residents of the country have formalized self-restriction – this is almost 83% of the total number of program participants.

Among the users of the service, there are more men – 1.49 million people (58%), while women number 1.07 million (42%). The mechanism is most actively used by citizens aged 26 to 35 – this group accounts for about 30% of all established restrictions.

The service is also in demand among young people under 26 – there are 647.6 thousand such users. In the age category of 36–45 years, 609.7 thousand citizens have formalized self-restriction.

The mechanism was launched after the adoption of amendments to the credit information legislation in March 2025. It allows for a free ban on issuing loans in one's own name, which should reduce the risk of fraud.

Before issuing a loan, banks and microfinance organizations are obliged to check the client's presence in the self-restriction register. If a loan was issued without such a check, the financial organization is responsible for the consequences. The restriction can be set or removed through the credit bureau, public service centers, or the Single Portal of Interactive Public Services.
