Uzbekistan and APSTAR Discuss Satellite Communications Development

Chinese company APSTAR proposed expanding the use of satellite technologies to develop Uzbekistan's telecom infrastructure

Uzbekistan's Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, held talks with the management of APT Satellite Company Limited (APSTAR) during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference WAIC 2026 in Shanghai. The main topic of the meeting was the development of satellite communications and the expansion of technological cooperation between the parties.

During the negotiations, the participants discussed the prospects for implementing satellite services in Uzbekistan, the development of modern telecommunications infrastructure, and opportunities for joint projects in space technologies.

APSTAR representatives expressed their readiness to offer the Uzbek market a full range of satellite solutions – from communication services to technological platforms, noting the positive dynamics of interaction with Uzbekistan.

The parties also considered further stages of cooperation, including the completion of organizational and legal procedures necessary to launch joint initiatives.

It is expected that the first results of the partnership may be presented during ICT Week Uzbekistan 2026. The development of satellite communications is considered one of the important directions for increasing the accessibility of digital services, especially in regions where traditional telecommunications infrastructure development is more challenging.
