China Overseas Engineering Construction (COVEC) has been selected as the contractor for the construction of the new Tashkent-Samarkand toll highway. The official announcement was made on July 22 during the project's groundbreaking ceremony.
Four Chinese companies participated in the tender for the highway's construction, including China State Construction Engineering Corporation, China Road and Bridge Corporation, and China Railway 20th Bureau Group. Following the selection process, COVEC, a subsidiary of China Railway Group specializing in international infrastructure projects, emerged as the winner.
Company representatives stated that modern technologies, safety standards, and environmental solutions will be applied during construction. The new Tashkent-Samarkand toll highway will be one of the country's largest transport projects. The construction cost is estimated at approximately $2.2 billion. The highway is expected to increase transport speed, improve logistics, and strengthen transport links between Uzbekistan's largest cities.
