Uzbekistan and Afghanistan discussed ways to increase bilateral trade turnover to $5 billion. The negotiations took place in Kabul with the participation of Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, Herat Province Governor Nur Ahmad Islamjar, and representatives of the trade and investment chambers of both countries.
One of the main topics of the meeting was the expansion of trade and economic cooperation. Participants considered the possibility of providing preferential tariffs for 14 Afghan export goods, as well as introducing special discounts on railway transportation of products from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan.
The negotiations were attended by representatives of government agencies, businesses, and the private sector of both countries, including heads of chambers of commerce, ministers of transport, mining, and oil industries of Uzbekistan.
Mohammad Yunus Kazizada, Chairman of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, noted the high potential of the region for implementing joint investment projects and expressed readiness to facilitate the development of contacts between entrepreneurs.
The parties emphasized the importance of regular dialogue for further growth of trade, attracting investments, and strengthening economic ties between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
