GEROPHARM announced the registration in Uzbekistan of Sejaro (tirzepatide), a drug intended for the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Obtaining a registration certificate opens up the possibility for the drug to enter the country's market and expand patient access to modern therapy. The manufacturer states that the drug is bioequivalent to the original Mounjaro by Eli Lilly, which became the world's best-selling drug in 2025.
Tirzepatide acts on two incretin hormone receptors at once, helping to reduce appetite, decrease cravings for high-calorie foods, and promote weight loss. According to international clinical trial data, in patients without diabetes, the use of the drug led to a reduction in body weight of up to 22.5% over 72 weeks, and waist circumference decreased by an average of 14.6 cm. Specialists pay particular attention to tirzepatide's ability to reduce visceral fat, which is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
According to the World Health Organization and the health authorities of Uzbekistan, about 64% of the adult population of the country is overweight, and approximately one in five residents suffers from obesity. Sejaro® will be available in pre-filled pens for subcutaneous injection in six dosages – from 2.5 to 15 mg. The drug is administered once a week and is available only by prescription.
