On September 4, an energy storage system with a capacity of 175 MW and a storage capacity of 350 MWh was connected to the power grid in the Zangiata district of Tashkent region. The $85 million project was implemented through foreign investments. The facility is already operating as part of the energy system, and it is planned to bring it to full capacity by the end of September.
The storage unit is primarily intended to improve the stability of electricity supply during periods of maximum consumption. The system will be able to accumulate electricity and then release it into the grid during peak loads, reducing the burden on other generation sources and helping to smooth out daily demand fluctuations.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the stored energy can be used twice a day, each time for two hours. Thus, the facility is capable of providing up to 350 MWh of stored energy in one cycle and will become an additional tool for stabilizing Uzbekistan's power grid.
