An electric train has been launched in the Khorezm region, directly connecting Urgench Airport with Khiva via the Urgench railway station. The route is served by a Chinese CR200J manufactured by CRRC Dalian. The six-car train is designed for 415 passengers, equipped with air conditioning, and its maximum speed reaches 160 km/h. The distance between the airport and Khiva is 45.9 km, which the train covers in 47 minutes.
The morning train departs from the airport at 8:40 AM and arrives at Urgench station at 8:59 AM, after which it continues to Khiva three minutes later, arriving there at 9:22 AM. In the evening, the train departs from Khiva at 9:00 PM and reaches Urgench Airport at 9:42 PM. A ticket for an adult costs 25,000 soums, and for a child – 14,000.
The project, costing 225 billion soums, is the first instance in Uzbekistan where a railway line has been laid directly to an airport. The new route is expected to simplify travel for tourists and residents between Urgench Airport, the city itself, and Khiva. In parallel, a trolleybus continues to operate between Urgench and Khiva, and recently, the country's first toll road was also opened here.
