At its 19th plenary session, the Senate of Uzbekistan approved the law on the ratification of protocols amending the Convention on International Civil Aviation, adopted in Montreal on October 6, 2016. The document provides for changes in the work of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the expansion of opportunities for member states to represent their interests.

The amendments are aimed at broader representation of countries in ICAO's governing and expert bodies, as well as a more balanced consideration of regional interests in decision-making. In addition, they provide for strengthening the institutional and expert capacity of the organization. The Senate noted that ratification will allow Uzbekistan to fulfill international obligations and support the reforms being carried out in ICAO.

The adoption of the law also creates a legal basis for nominating representatives of Uzbekistan to ICAO governing bodies and more actively promoting regional interests. The authorities expect that this will expand the country's participation in international civil aviation. After discussion, the law was approved by the senators.
