Uzbekistan's Banks Cross Historic Mark: Assets Exceed 1 Quadrillion Sums

Over the year, the banking sector significantly increased profits and deposits, while the share of foreign currency operations continued to decline

The total assets of Uzbekistan's banks reached 1,016.6 trillion sums as of August 1, 2026, an increase of 19.3% over the year. The net profit of the banking sector grew from 7.3 to 12.3 trillion sums. The loan portfolio increased by 11.9% to 644.6 trillion sums, and the volume of deposits jumped by 33.9%, reaching 482.7 trillion sums. Bank capital grew by 18.6% to 150.6 trillion sums.

At the same time, the share of foreign currency decreased. In assets, it decreased from 39.1% to 34.7%, in loans — from 40.5% to 38.7%, and in deposits — from 24.1% to 19.2%. Highly liquid assets grew from 145.9 to 222.8 trillion sums over the year, and their share in assets reached 22.7%. Non-performing loans amounted to 23.9 trillion sums, or 3.7% of the loan portfolio.

The number of commercial banks decreased from 36 to 34 over the year. At the same time, banks with state participation control 62% of all assets, 65.5% of loans, and 51.4% of deposits. The largest banks by assets remain UzNatsBank — 145.8 trillion sums, Agrobank — 124.2 trillion, and Uzpromstroybank — 105.2 trillion. Among private banks, Kapital Bank leads with assets of 62.1 trillion sums.
