Uztelecom and its subsidiary UZ-SAT have entered into an agreement with Amazon Leo and become an authorized distributor of the satellite system in Uzbekistan. UZ-SAT will provide clients with solutions based on Amazon Leo's low-Earth orbit network, complementing the existing terrestrial infrastructure. The technology is primarily aimed at areas where traditional connectivity is limited by geographical or economic factors.
Satellite communication will expand access to high-speed internet in remote settlements and provide connectivity for businesses and infrastructure facilities. Possible scenarios include the use of government digital services, distance education, telemedicine, remote work, and online communications. For enterprises, the technology can be a way to connect production sites in hard-to-reach areas.
Uztelecom continues to develop its terrestrial infrastructure in parallel: the company serves 96% of Uzbekistan's settlements, and the length of its fiber-optic lines has reached 378,802 km. The company notes that Amazon Leo will not replace existing networks but will become an additional communication channel. According to representatives of both parties, the partnership should expand connectivity where the construction of conventional telecommunications infrastructure is difficult.
