Uzbekistan to update school textbooks and expand dual education in universities

By 2027, it is planned to prepare 1342 titles of educational materials, and dual education is expected to cover 185 thousand senior students

On September 28, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed proposals for further reforming the education system. The main directions were updating school textbooks, expanding dual education in universities, and launching a branch of Liaoning Normal University in Khiva.

By 2027, it is planned to prepare 1342 titles of textbooks and teaching materials. International experience was used in their development: primary school textbooks were certified by the Finnish Educational Alliance, and materials on mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology for grades 5–7 were created based on Singaporean textbooks. New programs also include classes on career guidance, digital and financial literacy, ecology, critical thinking, and practical application of knowledge.

Special attention is paid to training personnel for the economy. The authorities have set the task of covering at least 80% of third and fourth-year students – about 185 thousand people – with dual education. In the 2027/2028 academic year, 75 universities and 3500 enterprises are planned to be involved in the program. The model will be developed on a priority basis in engineering, manufacturing, construction, and agriculture. Subsidies and other support measures are offered to enterprises that accept students for internships and then employ them.

A branch of Liaoning Normal University is also planned to be opened in Khiva. It will offer programs in Chinese language teaching, international business, tourism management, and artificial intelligence. Training will be conducted in Uzbek, Chinese, and English, and the branch is expected to start operating in the 2026/2027 academic year. Academic exchanges, joint research, and training of computer science teachers in AI areas are also envisaged.
