"Uzbekiston Temir Yullari" to Purchase High-Speed Trains from Hyundai Rotem

New trains are planned to be equipped with separate VIP cars, and two existing high-speed trains will be modernized

JSC "Uzbekiston Temir Yullari" has agreed with South Korean Hyundai Rotem to prepare an agreement for the supply of eight new high-speed electric trains. The negotiations took place in Berlin as part of the InnoTrans-2026 transport technology exhibition. This was the first time the Uzbek railway company participated in this event.

According to preliminary agreements, each new train will have a separate VIP car with capsule seats. In addition, Hyundai Rotem and "Uzbekiston Temir Yullari" plan to modernize the last two cars of already operating high-speed trains. In these cars, business-class seats will be replaced with VIP seats with tables — one updated car in each train. The final characteristics of the trains, including layout, number of seats, and technical parameters, will be determined during the preparation of technical documentation.

Separate negotiations were held with Chinese CRRC Corporation Limited. The parties discussed the creation of a service center in Uzbekistan for the repair and maintenance of locomotives based on the industrial enterprises of the railway company. The production of freight cars with adjustable track gauge, technical support for new trains, and the purchase of locomotives were also considered.

In addition, "Uzbekiston Temir Yullari" discussed with the European Commission the development of railway infrastructure, with Serbian Railways — possible participation in modernization projects of main lines, and with Deutsche Bahn — the training of Uzbek specialists and joint scientific developments. Negotiations with Huawei and other technology companies focused on the digitalization of the railway industry and the implementation of innovative solutions.
