A delegation from the University of Utah visited the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, where they familiarized themselves with the development of the local IT industry and digital government. The university representatives were presented with the activities of IT Park and informed about measures to support technology companies, the development of the startup ecosystem, and the growth of IT service exports. The delegation also visited UZINFOCOM, where they were introduced to digital government projects, state information systems, and platforms.
At the meeting between the Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov and representatives of the University of Utah, discussions focused on training specialists in IT and artificial intelligence, as well as the interaction of universities with technology companies. The parties considered the creation of university-based startups, support for faculty and student projects, mentorship, and attracting investments from the idea stage to MVP. A separate area could be the development of the gaming industry using the educational and research potential of the university in computer science and AI.
In addition, participants discussed joint research on artificial intelligence, including the impact of AI on the labor market and the development of responsible and safe technologies. Other areas mentioned include training cybersecurity specialists, improving teacher qualifications, developing BPO and KPO services, creating remote workplaces, and joint educational programs. Representatives of the University of Utah also expressed interest in scientific cooperation in the field of responsible AI.
