Uzbekistan reveals space plans: the country is preparing new projects and hosting IAC-2028

Sherzod Shermatov, Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, presented the priority areas for the development of the national space industry at the 77th International Astronautical Congress IAC-2026. During the ministerial round table, he spoke about the country's current capabilities and plans to expand international cooperation in the space sector.

Among the main directions are the development of space technologies and innovations, the introduction of modern solutions, strengthening interaction between the state and the private sector, and expanding international knowledge exchange. To build national potential, Uzbekistan also expects to develop new forms of cooperation, attract investments, and implement promising space projects.

A separate topic was the preparation for the International Astronautical Congress in Samarkand in 2028. IAC-2026 is taking place in Antalya from October 5–9 and has gathered more than 10,000 participants, including representatives of space companies, astronauts, and international organizations. The forum includes exhibitions, presentations, technical and academic sessions, as well as meetings on space industry development and international cooperation.
