Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Avaza, put forward an initiative to prepare a Joint Concept for the Low-Carbon Energy Potential of the Region. The document should help countries coordinate the development of energy infrastructure, plan the construction of new power plants, implement energy storage systems, and form cross-border energy corridors.
The head of state noted that Central Asian countries have diverse resources: from significant hydrocarbon reserves to opportunities for hydropower, solar, and wind generation. Coordinated use of these sources, in his opinion, will allow for more effective complementarity of national energy systems. At the same time, the share of renewable energy sources in the regional energy balance will become increasingly important.
Another initiative was the proposal to start the work of the international consortium "Clean Air of Central Asia". Mirziyoyev proposed to begin cooperation with a pilot program for the environmental modernization of industrial zones, agro-clusters, and transport hubs. It should help move from discussing air pollution to practical measures in areas with a high environmental burden.
Energy and environmental initiatives were included in a broader package of Uzbekistan's proposals for regional cooperation. It also covers the development of transport links, rational use of water resources, cooperation in critical minerals, and digital technologies.
