The Competition Committee of Uzbekistan has launched an investigation into the validity of planned tariff increases by some mobile operators. The reason for this was upcoming price changes and consumer complaints about the quality of communication. The agency intends to determine how much the increase in service costs corresponds to their actual volume and quality.
According to the regulator, operators are increasing the volume of internet traffic in packages, but do not always ensure the quality of connection that allows subscribers to fully use the paid gigabytes. At the same time, unused traffic balances are not carried over to the next month. Consumers also point out that the price increase does not correspond to the increase in the volume of included internet.
If the inspection reveals violations of competition rules or infringement of subscribers' rights, the Committee will conduct proceedings provided for by law and apply appropriate measures if violations are confirmed.
The agency also recalled the results of previous work with operators. Beeline canceled the automatic transfer of subscribers to daily payment without prior notice when there were insufficient funds to debit the monthly payment and provided users with the opportunity to independently manage this service. In addition, calls to more than 100 short numbers of trust lines of state bodies, previously paid for by the operator, became free.
Mobiuz eliminated technical restrictions when switching to some tariffs and provided more complete information about the terms of service. Ucell, in turn, changed the public offer, adding provisions on liability for material and moral damage.
