Additional trains launched between Baku and Tbilisi, ticket prices drop

The number of services has doubled, and passenger capacity has increased by 46%

Starting November 1, 2026, an additional train began operating on the international Baku–Tbilisi railway route. Thanks to the extra train set, the number of daily services between the capitals of Azerbaijan and Georgia has doubled from 2 to 4, and the number of available passenger seats has increased from 386 to 564—by approximately 46%. At the same time, minimum fares were reduced: a one-way ticket can now be purchased starting from 82.5 GEL, or about 54 manats. This was reported by Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.

The new train consists of cars in three categories: Standard, Standard+, and Business. The Stadler trains allow travel between the cities both day and night. According to the schedule, one of the services departs from Baku at 23:10 and arrives in Tbilisi at 08:41 the following day, while the return train departs at 11:00 and reaches the Azerbaijani capital at 20:26. The additional daytime pair departs from Baku at 09:10, arriving in Tbilisi at 19:11, and departs from the Georgian capital at 22:00, arriving in Baku at 07:57.

Direct rail service between Baku and Tbilisi was resumed in May 2026 after a hiatus of several years. High demand for the route has repeatedly prompted the Azerbaijani side to increase the number of carriages. One of the reasons for the popularity of the trains remains the restrictions on crossing the border by car, which have been in place since the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the restoration of rail communication, passengers had to travel between the two cities primarily by air.
