A Billion Kilowatts in a Month and a Half: Uzbekistan's "Green" Energy Takes a Leap Forward

Solar and wind power added 40% to last year's figures and are already saving hundreds of millions of cubic meters of gas

In 2026, solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan generated 1 billion kWh of electricity, which is 400 million kWh more than the year before. According to the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, as of February 13, the country has 15 solar power plants with a total capacity of 5,582 MW and five wind farms, ensuring rapid growth in generation.

Since the beginning of the year, solar power plants have produced 396 million kWh, and wind power plants have produced 604 million kWh. This has saved 267 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevented the emission of over 575 thousand tons of pollutants. Taking into account hydropower, the total volume of "clean" generation reached 1.57 billion kWh.

The development of renewable energy sources in the country has accelerated since 2022: if solar power plants produced 434 million kWh then, in 2025 the total generation of solar and wind energy reached 10.5 billion kWh. The new indicators confirm the course towards a large-scale energy transformation and a reduction in dependence on gas.
