Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have agreed to expand rail transportation volumes as part of strengthening trade and economic ties and developing international transit. A meeting between the transport ministers of the two countries allowed for discussions on the prospects of further integrating transport routes and increasing throughput capacity.

By the end of 2025, the volume of transportation between the countries reached 32.3 million tons, which is 16% more than in 2024. To ensure sustainable growth, a Joint Action Plan has been developed, including the development of infrastructure at the Saryagash, Oasis, and Syrdarya junctions, as well as the completion of the Darbaza – Maktaral section.

Currently, up to 36 pairs of trains pass through Saryagash per day, with plans to increase this to 40. Through Oasis, the number will increase from 2 to 10 pairs, and through Syrdarya, up to 10 pairs after the new section is commissioned. These measures will allow the total volume of transportation to reach 60 million tons and improve the efficiency of logistics routes in the region.
