Mining in Uzbekistan May Become Cheaper: Authorities Prepare an Electricity Discount

The government is considering a 15-percent tariff reduction for crypto mining and data centers

Uzbekistan plans to introduce an electricity discount for cryptocurrency mining projects and data center operations. This was reported by Deputy Energy Minister Umid Mamadaminov during an open dialogue of the government commission with entrepreneurs and investors of the Bukhara Region. According to him, a draft resolution providing for a 15-percent discount on the current tariff of the second tariff group is already undergoing approval by the relevant agencies.

The initiative was discussed after an appeal from business representatives. The founder of NexaGrid, Makhmudzhon Rozimurodov, which received the first mining license in January, reported strong interest in such projects from investors from the United States, Saudi Arabia, and China. He proposed granting the Bukhara Region conditions similar to the current mining incentives in Karakalpakstan.

Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev noted that projects in Karakalpakstan became pilot projects and have already attracted several investments. In the future, the government plans to expand the system of incentives. According to representatives of the Energy Ministry, the electricity discount may apply not only to individual regions, but also to data center and crypto mining projects throughout the country.
