Passenger traffic of Uzbekistan's railways fell by almost a third

Over the past 25 years

In 2025, 10.5 million passengers were transported by rail in Uzbekistan, according to the National Statistics Committee. For comparison, in 2000 this figure was 14.6 million people — almost 4.1 million more.

Over the past 25 years, the dynamics of transportation have been uneven: growth was observed by 2015, when passenger traffic reached 20.1 million people, followed by a sharp decline to 6.2 million in 2020. In subsequent years, a gradual recovery began: 7.9 million in 2021, 9.8 million in 2024, and 10.5 million in 2025.

Despite the growth in recent years, passenger traffic has still not reached the levels of the early 2000s. Experts note that the reduction is due to changes in the transport preferences of citizens and the development of alternative modes of transport.
