Project on Hydrogen Energy Development Launched in Tashkent

Pilot programs are being launched as part of the project

On April 2, 2026, a new initiative to develop clean hydrogen technologies in Uzbekistan was launched in Tashkent. The project, called Clean Hydrogen for Uzbekistan, was presented by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in collaboration with the country's Ministry of Energy. Its goal is to create a complete ecosystem and legal framework for the large-scale implementation of hydrogen technologies. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and funded by the Korean Green New Deal Trust Fund (KGNDTF) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea.

Uzbekistan is actively modernizing its energy sector. The country has a Strategy for Transition to a "Green" Economy until 2030 and a number of programs to increase the share of renewable energy sources and diversify the fuel and energy balance. According to the updated document "Nationally Determined Contributions" (NDC 3.0) from October 2025, the share of renewable generation should reach 54% by 2030.

Pilot programs are being launched as part of the project to assess the potential of hydrogen energy and identify government support measures. Clean hydrogen is produced with minimal or zero greenhouse gas emissions throughout its life cycle, effectively stores and transmits energy, reducing the carbon footprint. These properties make hydrogen a key tool for decarbonizing industry and increasing the flexibility of the national energy system.
