Uzbekistan sets its sights on the Afghan car market: targeting 100,000 used cars per year

The CCI believes that Afghanistan could become a major new destination for the export of cars and spare parts

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan has announced the high potential of the Afghan car market and proposed expanding the export of used cars. According to the organization, annual demand could reach 250–300 thousand cars, which opens up significant opportunities for business.

The Chairman of the CCI, Davron Vahabov, noted that Uzbekistan is capable of occupying a significant share of this market — up to 100 thousand cars per year, which is equivalent to approximately $500 million. The main emphasis is proposed to be placed on affordable used models, which could become a key segment of supplies.

Lacetti, Nexia, Matiz and Spark were named among the potential export models. It is noted that today the main part of cars enters Afghanistan through complex logistics chains from the USA and Japan, however, geopolitical restrictions create a window of opportunity for new suppliers. Issues of settlements and return of funds are also being discussed, and the growth of exports of auto parts is additionally being considered.
