The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan has submitted new requirements for the placement and operation of electric vehicle charging stations for discussion. Land plots for them will be provided through electronic auctions at a starting price of 50% of the appraised value. Fast chargers cannot be placed too close to each other, and along interregional highways, they will be required to be placed every 20 kilometers. Up to five terminals will be allowed at one point, taking into account the network load.
Strict quality control is introduced: mandatory metrological verification of equipment and inspection at least once every two years. Without this, the operation of stations will be prohibited. By the end of 2025, there are already more than 100 thousand electric vehicles in the country. With the new measures, their number is planned to increase to 400–500 thousand by 2030 and to 1.5–2 million by 2035. This will save 600–800 million cubic meters of natural gas annually.
In 2026, the number of charging stations should increase to 4000. The new rules are designed to create a modern, safe, and evenly distributed infrastructure, improve ecology, and stimulate a mass transition to electric transport.
