Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank have signed a financing agreement worth $200 million aimed at modernizing electricity distribution systems. The document was formalized within the framework of a results-based lending program and signed during the ADB's annual meeting in Samarkand.
The project involves the upgrade and reconstruction of medium-voltage power grids, as well as improving the efficiency of electricity delivery to end-users. Authorities note that this is a logical continuation of energy reforms, including the modernization of high-voltage infrastructure and substations.
According to industry representatives, the program's objective is to ensure the integration of growing generation volumes, including renewable energy sources, and to create additional capacity for the population and industry. By 2030, the country plans to increase the share of "green" energy to 54%, which requires significant strengthening of distribution networks.
