Uzbekistan Initiates Environmental Review of Nuclear Power Plant Project

Belarusian specialists involved in the expert review

Uzbekistan has launched a state environmental review of the nuclear power plant construction project. A special expert group has been formed to assess the future NPP's environmental impact, comprising both Uzbek specialists and representatives from the Belarusian Republican Center for State Environmental Expertise. Authorities note that the involvement of foreign experts will allow for the application of international experience in analyzing nuclear energy projects.

Experts are studying environmental impact assessment materials, including the station's effect on the atmosphere, water resources, soil, flora, and fauna. Particular attention is paid to the hydrogeological and seismological characteristics of the area, as well as measures to prevent environmental risks and potential pollution.

Specialists have already visited the site of the future NPP in the Farish district of Jizzakh region, where they assessed the natural-climatic and geomorphological conditions on-site. Furthermore, comments and suggestions received during public discussions of the project will be taken into account when preparing the final conclusion. Based on the results of the expert review, authorities will prepare a list of mandatory environmental requirements for the further implementation of construction.
