Uzbekistan has for the first time demonstrated Direct-to-Device satellite communication technology, which allows messages to be transmitted directly to mobile devices without the involvement of base stations. The testing was carried out using the Viasat system and was part of discussions held during the GSMA M360 Eurasia forum.

During the meeting, Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov discussed with company representatives the development of satellite communications, the expansion of coverage in remote areas, and the modernization of telecom infrastructure. The technical capabilities of D2D, which provides a direct communication channel between a satellite and a smartphone without additional equipment, were specifically considered.

The parties also discussed possible pilot projects with subsequent scaling at the national level. It is emphasized that the implementation of such solutions can enhance digital accessibility in hard-to-reach regions and become the basis for expanding satellite services and developing national telecommunication technologies.
