Uzbekistan plans a comprehensive update of its system for training scientists and organizing scientific activities. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a package of proposals aimed at increasing the effectiveness of science and its international competitiveness.

Key initiatives include strengthening support for research in priority areas, including artificial intelligence, medicine, energy, water resources, and new materials. It is also proposed to increase doctoral scholarships in these areas by 1.7 times and expand funding for equipment and reagents.

A separate block of reforms concerns the digitalization of the scientific sphere. It is planned to transfer dissertation defense procedures to an electronic format, reduce their processing time by approximately 50%, and decrease the administrative burden on researchers. The reform of the scientific certification system and the strengthening of science's connection with the real sector of the economy through applied doctoral programs are also being discussed.
