Pressurized Gas: Uzbekistan's Production Falls, Imports Displace Exports

The country records a steady decline in energy resource production and a simultaneous reduction in foreign exchange earnings from gas supplies.

Uzbekistan's gas sector is experiencing a significant downturn: natural gas production in January–April 2026 decreased to 12.6 billion m³. This is 16% less than a year earlier, and almost 18% below the 2024 level. The downward trend has continued for the third consecutive year, indicating systemic changes in the industry.

At the same time, related indicators are also declining. Gas condensate production decreased by almost 20% — to 319.3 thousand tons, and oil production also continued to fall. Against the backdrop of a shrinking resource base, export revenues are also decreasing, which directly affects the country's foreign economic income.

The decline in export revenues is particularly noticeable: for the first four months of 2026, they amounted to $129.4 million, which is 35% less than a year earlier. In 2025, a sharp increase in exports was recorded, but now the dynamics have reversed, exacerbating the imbalance between production and external supplies.
