A new electric train has started operating in Uzbekistan on the Tashkent — Bekabad route. The first passenger of the new train was the country's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who arrived in Bekabad to familiarize himself with the development of railway communication.
The launch of the line was implemented as part of the state program to increase the volume of domestic railway transportation until 2030. The new 192 km route is designed for approximately one thousand passengers daily, and the expected annual passenger traffic will be about 300 thousand people.
A six-car electric train with a capacity of 586 passengers will be used on this route. The train can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h and is aimed at both regular passengers and residents who commute daily between cities for work or study.
The train is equipped with modern facilities: provisions for people with disabilities, heating and air conditioning systems, soft seats, USB ports, Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, electronic displays, and areas for bicycle transportation.
Authorities expect that the new route will help reduce the load on roads and increase the share of environmentally friendly transport in passenger transportation. Mirziyoyev instructed to continue modernizing railway infrastructure, accelerate the electrification of lines, and improve the quality of passenger services.
